Tararua Rodders 40th Anniversary

Marty & Tina went up Friday night and caught up with old friends at the Cobb & Co. The rest of us went up Saturday morning arriving at Cobb & Co about 9am. It wasn't long before the carpark was full.

Off on the Mystery Cruise. The first stop was at the Ravensdown Fertiliser Weigh Station. We had to guess the weight of our cars with passengers and then check it against the actual weight. The Spinner weighed in at 1880 kgs, Barry's Customline and Kerry & Mel's Chev were slighly less. The Thunderbird was just under 1700kgs.

Kerry & Mel go onto the Weigh bridge.

Lots of long straight roads plus beautiful weather equals great cruising.

Here we are queued up at the beginning of the Drag Strip.

Big block Caddy went well.

GCRCC at Manukau for lunch and games.

Grandad Rammie goes in and doesn't give up until gets an apple. It was a lot harder than it looks. They were the best apples I've tasted for a long time.

Marty at the motor-carna. Missed 17 cones but murdered number 18 under his car!  Ivan Booth came first with the best time, I had the second fastest time. No prize for being second, same as life!

This my pick for the weekend.  Late model big block Caddy engine.  Check out the custom aircleaner below.

Just Tararua and GCRCC, we felt very priviledged to have been invited.

Selena had done a great job of collecting old photos and the photos from the day and putting them up on the large screen. Brought back memories for our guys. Robin featured in quite a few.

After an awesome dinner they had Prize giving for the days's activities.  Marty won the only prize in our Club and it was for the worst Poker Hand.

Nathan the Club President gave a speech on the last ten years and Jocko gave a speech on the previous thirty.  Magoo spoke about how the Club was formed and some of the Clubs personalities.

Great Band got the girls up dancing.

Overall it was a great weekend.  Beautiful weather, great turnout of cars and people. Couldn't be better.

John Everiss's Studebaker Museum in Otaki

Last Sunday a few of us tagged onto the Manawatu Mustang Club's visit to John Everiss' Studebaker Museum. John lives in Waikanae and is quite often seen driving around in one of his cars.

1951 Studebaker Champion

1964 Studebaker Avanti.  304 Supercharged V8, 3 speed auto and capable of 160mph. Fibreglass body was immaculate.  Check out the square bumpers and a face only a mother would love!

That's the supercharger top left of the photo.

Cool New Zealand scenery on a small scale.
When completed it'll show a cross section of all of New Zealand.

All the trucks and diggers were in the Everiss colour scheme

No Studebakers are shown broken down, only Chevs!
The sign says "We're out the Recession........Yeah Right"

'58 Chev with it's bonnet up.

"Kiwi's are just like Australians.......Yeah Right"

Palmy Swap Meet 2012

Palmerston North Hot Rod Club say this is the only real Swap Meet left, I don't know whether that's true or not but it sure was a great weekend. The event was well organised and awesome hospitality from the hosts  and near perfect weather made it a not to be missed event.

There were plenty of high quality trade displays from all the major players.

There's been a few subtle changes to the Nomad and it looks as good as ever.

Robin's stall in front under the EZ-up, Wayne & Bruizer to the left and Barry's stall at the back.

1940 Mercury Custom Convertible built by Frank De Rosa Customs in the US.  We're very lucky to have an old school custom of this quality in NZ.

Darryl's having trouble finding a C20 roof for his '32 and took a fancy to this Goldflash roof. It was looking ok until the owner turned up and wanted to know wtf Darryl was doing with the tape measure. Turns out he might have a roof off a 57/58 station wagon that might fit the bill.

Pontiac Tempest Steve Waghorn once owned and regrets selling. A very tidy low mileage car.

MID WINTER CHILL OUT AT KRUISIN' KUSTOMS

1932 Ford coupe being built up by Krusin' Kustoms. Brookville all steel body, chopped roof 3.5ins in the front and 3 ins at the back. LSX aluminium 454 engine, Hillborn EFI injection, 6 speed auto with paddle shift, Heidts independant front end, Speedway quick change rear, custom aluminium cross members, electric windows, Wilwood rotors & 6 pot calipers, custom built electric heated seats, custom one-off wheels 20" & 18" being fabricated in the US, automatic light sensor headlights, etc etc etc.

1937 Chev Coupe from Palmerston North.  Widened rear fibreglass guards & running boards, super slick paint by Kruzin' Kustoms.

Free beer from the Tiki Bar and free sausages from the bbq went down a treat with the big crowd.

About 3pm we left and headed off to PNHR Clubrooms for a few more beers and a chat round the fire with more free food from our generous hosts.  Geoff Edgington's told us about his recent trip to States and about  the two cars he purchased.  Kerry was that rapt with Palmy's clubrooms that he's keen to use some of the good ideas he saw to improve our Clubrooms.

But all good things have to come to an end and we had just settled in nicely when we get a text from the girls.............

"Where r u?"
